EMOTIONS INSIDE OUT or OUTSIDE IN?
Studies have shown that ‘winking’ is one of those acts - easily read wrong. Is it being funny? Flirtatious? Sarcastic? Vicious? Downright evil ? 😈😀
On the other hand a smile is considered a good descriptor of the Emotion of Happiness. But here are fun facts for you...
Science now proves that Emotions are not triggered by an event but they are created and we are active participants in the act of creating emotions. Our inner sensations, are given a meaning by our brain. Our brain predicts what we might be feeling. (A wonderful book on this is How emotions are made - by Lisa Feldman Barrett)
A smile is also a learnt response passed on to us over the centuries 😀. Somewhere in the Middle Ages.
It is time we stop blaming triggers for how we feel. And take ownership of how we feel. It’s another way of saying - pain is part of life, suffering is optional though
The way we create emotions depends on not just our brain, but our culture, genetic make up, our experiences. Case in point - Everybody who has anger does not have Migraines. Everyone who fears, does not have peptic ulcers. Our bodies are unique in the way they feel and our brain unique in the way it labels those feelings / emotions
It is wiser to enquire what emotion one is feeling and deconstruct it. Than to label - what emotion someone is feeling by seeing their facial expressions, tone of voice or body language.
So can you guess what emotion am I in with that wink? 😀😀😀. I know I ain’t that good at the Art of Winking - 🤣🤣🤣, but I am practicing
