‘What would WE do – if YOU were here?’
When team members are afar, when possibilities of in-person spontaneous water cooler chit-chats are diminished, that above is a question whose answers can give you clues to ‘how do we build the culture of belonging in virtual teams?’
Let’s ask ourselves this question: ‘What would WE do – if YOU were here?
✔️We would celebrate together
✔️ We would whine together
✔️ Engaged with each other as humans do
The lunch may have been on you, when you told me your wins! Can we still celebrate in a new way, even when we are apart as team members. Answer is yes.
We may have whined about our challenges perhaps in our car rides back home, can we still find those outlets of expressing our challenges with our peers. Answer is yes.
You would have asked ‘what’s up…’ especially when you noticed changes in a peer, which would indicate that you care about them. Can we still spontaneously and intentionally keep in touch with our peers to just ask ‘’what’s up…’. Answer is Yes.
We need some creativity to change the ways we celebrated, engaged or whined !
Let’s diligently keep asking ourselves this question: ‘What would WE do – if YOU were here?’ to create culture of belonging in virtual team connects.
The pic is me celebrating a distant sitting family member’s win with a yummy pound cake slice and a cuppa tea!
